Rock Lake is the deepest lake in New Mexico (in excess of 250 feet).
It's a great lake to dive. The diameter is over 400 feet. The shape of the lake as far as the side contours, is similar to an hour glass. Because of its depth and shear walls, good buoyancy control is a definite requirement. The water flow, water content, visibility, and temperature is at times similar to "Blue Hole" In the summer, the algee bloom reduces the visibility to 15 feet or so. A concrete pier has been provided for easy entry and exit. A small fish population plus turtles can be found at most diving depths and fresh water sponge can be found at depths of 30 feet. A special experience for diving the southwest. Divers and observers have to be careful where they step, due to all the cows that congregate around the lake.
The owner of The Butler Quarterhorse Ranch on which Rock Lake is situated is Debbie Ladyhawk.
Contact Debbie at (575) 472-4102. She may give you permission to use the lake with certain restrictions
