My diving background started as surface and sandwich support to my husband Bert and our son Cal who
both went the "fast lane" approach on PADI´s path of scuba diving adventure.
When I the summer of 1995 decided to become a scuba diver, I was terrified of being on scuba and needed to learn how to respect the water around me.
It was long before my own certification date February 11, 1996 that I decided that I was going to become an Assistant Instructor!
My husband at that time was on his way to become a Dive Master so I saw many other student divers that had the same problem as myself.
I promised to get my certification and be there for everyone who was a slow learner.
I took most all specialties PADI had to offer, became a Master Scuba Diver, on my way to be a Rescue Diver and Dive Master, my goal was approaching.
Most of my diving has been to Santa Rosa, NM and Balmorhea, TX.
I did go to Grand Cayman twice and enjoyed both the diving and the madness!
September 8, 1998 I got my AI-160373 card!
Now I could get my dream come true and help the instructor with the slower student divers.
At the same time PADI extended the responsibilities for an Assistant Instructor, so I could really help out - I loved it!
I have more dives in the pool than in the open water, but I know that if I could be there to give
that extra help, I could help someone to go on to the open water training dives and reach their dream to explore the underwater world.
I was happy and content being an Assistant Instructor and help my Instructor until one big class a couple of months back, where a lot of student divers had problems.
They were so close but yet so far away from being certified.
I felt desperate not being able to help all the way.
At that point I decided that I had to become a "true" instructor so I could instruct everything to everyone.
The Underwater World is too beautiful not being able to explore.
I hope I will make it. My pledge to myself is to give all the time in the world to all the student
divers that need that extra time to adapt to scuba. I still remember how I struggled to take my first
breath under water, but look at me now! Now I´m there for others and I will always be.
A Million Thanks to my first Instructor "Peaches" Hines that did not give up on me.
