0 - Ready, Set, Go ... For Your Pre-Study
PADI Dive Theory, Standards and Procedures:
You need to have a recent Divemaster Knowledge Base
If Not, it's high time to hit the books and go through the new Rescue Diver and Divemaster programs. We will help you figure out what study material is important.
Instructor Candidate Workbook - Knowledge Reviews:
The first section in Your Instructor Candidate Workbook, contains Knowledge Reviews that direct you to read information from various sources and answer questions based on what you've read.
Pre-study allows you to start your training by understanding basic PADI Standards and having the background knowledge necessary to learn to teach PADI Programs.
You should consult your course schedule and preview appropriate presentations before you come to class.
Note any questions you may have about the material. This helps you prepare to more fully participate in each session.

1 - Let The Training Start; Here and Now in Our Classroom
The next two section in Your Workbook, provide a framework for the complete IDC course classroom presentations
IDC - Part 1; The PADI Assistant Instructor Course (AI) (7 Class Meetings - 40 Hours)
not only provides valuable preparation for Open Water Scuba Instructor training, but also expands skills that enhance an AI's professional capacity. During the course you'll concentrate on developing an academic presentation style that allows you to effectively conduct classroom sessions for any PADI course. Upon completion, you may choose to go on to an Open Water Scuba Instructor Course (OWSI), or use your practical knowledge and skills as a professional Assistant Instructor.
The PADI IDC stresses development.
As a result, you can relax while learning, knowing that mistakes are part of the process. Although there are performance requirements for successfully completing the course, there are not time limitations, so you may continue to progress under your Course Director's guidance. This makes the IDC challenging, yet an enjoyable learning experience.
IDC - Part 2; The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Course (OWSI) (14 Class Meetings - 50 Hours)
is the heart of the PADI Instructor training process. During the IDC, you'll apply your diving skills and knowledge to learning to teach the PADI System in the classroom, confined water (pool) and open water. All IDC's are conducted by PADI Course Directors, each a highly experienced instructor trainer who has met strict educational proficiency requirements.

2 - Let's Do Some Presentations; The Excitement is Bubbling!
Besides attend and participate in the curriculum presentations you also do some presentations:
  • Your first presentation will be a knowledge development micro-teaching in the classroom.
Here you can act out ala "Hollywood style".
  • Later in the program we are in the pool doing Skills Development Workshop and also Confined Water Teaching Presentations.
Brings back memories from your Divemaster days!
  • Before you know it you are ready for an open water presentation by integrating at least two skills into one presentation.
Do you start to feel like a "real" instructor soon?

3 - The Grand Finale; I Will Be Instructing Soon!       Snorkler
Becoming a professional dive educator
The final evaluation of your knowledge and skills comes later during the PADI Instructor Examination (IE) where Professional Instructor Examiners from PADI conduct IEs to confirm that instructor candidates meet the requirements for certification as PADI Instructors.
